The world famous 🏃♂️ 🏴 🥃London Kilt Run 🏃♂️ 🏴 🥃 as featured in Runner’s World Magazine!Meet at the Robert Burns Statue in Victoria Embankment Gardens
Join us for this 🏴 Scottish 🏴 themed 🏃♂️ social run 🏃♂️around Central London
🏃♂️ 2pm Saturday 25 January 🏃♂️ taking in some of the Scottish Landmarks in London we stop at include;
✅ Robert Burns Statue (start & finish location) this is near to the Embankment Bistro Cafe 25 Victoria Gardens, Victoria Embankment, London WC2N 6PB)
✅ Scotland Place, Whitehall
✅ Dover House, Whitehall (Secretary of State for Scotland)
✅ Banqueting House (sit of execution of last Scottish born king - Charles I)
✅ 10 Downing Street (9 Prime Ministers from Scotland)
✅ Churchill Statue - MP for Dundee
✅ Bagpiper at the Houses of Parliament (TBC)
✅ Westminster Abbey - Robert Burns bust in Poet’s Corner
✅ The London Scottish Regiment & Museum (Horseferry Road)
✅ MI5 / MI6 - James Bond & Scottish Connection
Over Lambeth Bridge, then…
✅ Houses of Parliament - Scotland taking over the English throne 1603 & Guy Fawkes 1605 - numbers of MP’s from Scotland
✅ Shakespeare’s Globe - Macbeth - ‘the Scottish Play’
✅ Tower Bridge - home of several Scottish kings and dignitaries - willing and not so willing - last home for William Wallace and Jacobite Lord Lovat Simon Fraser
✅ A nod to the Cutty Sark - ship built in Glasgow which made fame on trade routes - name comes from a line in Tam O Shanter (Robert Burns poem)
Returning back…
✅ Tower of London & nearby execution location of several famous Scots over the years
✅ London Bridge - William Wallace head on a spike here - executed (site nearby at St Barts Hospital)
✅ Scotland House Blackfriars
🏁 Finish back at the Robert Burns Statue, where many follow on for a dram at the nearby pub 🥃
The route is approximately 10km and we stop at around 10 different sites which is by no means exhaustive - many others will be mentioned but please also bring your own research, historical and anecdotal stories of Scots in London to add in to the theme of Scotland’s rich and varied tapestry in London - there is lots more than you think!
