About this Event
A winter walk filled with history, views, and quiet seasonal magic
Step into a slower winter’s day and explore one of North Wales’ most beautiful valleys. This guided circular walk blends dramatic hilltop views, peaceful riverside paths, and moments of stillness — with the added magic of snowdrops appearing across the landscape
Winter is a special time to be here: fewer crowds, crisp air, and a sense of calm you just don’t get in busier seasons. Snowdrop season is brief, making this a lovely chance to catch the Dee Valley at its most delicate and atmospheric.
This 12.5 km circular route takes us along muddy, grassy, and uneven footpaths, climbing steadily to open viewpoints before winding back into Llangollen. The pace is relaxed and supportive, with time to pause, take photos, and enjoy the surroundings.
We’ll finish back in town, perfectly placed for a warm drink or a wander through Llangollen’s independent shops — a well-earned reward after a day outdoors ☕
What Makes This Walk Special
🏰 Castell Dinas Brân
Rising above the valley, this medieval castle sits on an Iron Age hillfort and offers sweeping views across the Welsh countryside.
💧 Horseshoe Falls
A calm, scenic stretch where the canal meets the River Dee — peaceful and quietly impressive.
🌼 St Tysilio’s Church
A tranquil spot that often comes alive with snowdrops during winter, creating a truly seasonal moment.
🏛️ Valle Crucis Abbey
An atmospheric historic site we pass along the route, adding depth and story to the walk.
Is This Walk Right for Me?
This walk is intermediate level and ideal if you’re happy walking for several hours on uneven ground. You don’t need to be the fastest or most experienced — just open to a steady day outdoors with gentle challenge and plenty of support.
Group sizes are kept small to ensure a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and plenty of guidance throughout.
