Following last year's conference, Living Through the Unimaginable, this year's event asks how we continue to bear witness in a climate of increasing silencing and oppression. As systems of law, justice and accountability come under strain, and truth-telling is increasingly challenged by misinformation and historical revisionism, how do we orient ourselves ethically and professionally, and what frameworks can support us in responding with integrity to profound human suffering?
We invite clinicians and mental health professionals from all backgrounds to join us in thinking together about how these realities affect our clinical work, our professional responsibilities and our shared humanity. The conference will be informed throughout by the Universal Ethical Framework, which will provide an essential ethical backdrop to the day's exploration of witnessing, truth-telling, clinical responsibility and professional practice in the context of mass violence and human suffering.

The Phoenix of Gaza
We are honoured to open the conference with a screening of Yousef Al-Helou's powerful and deeply moving documentary, filmed in Gaza shortly before the destruction of much of its physical, cultural and social fabric. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Yousef and an audience Q&A, reflecting on memory, loss, resilience and the refusal of erasure.
Hope from Gaza
David Harrold, Chair of Trustees of the Palestine Trauma Centre (UK), has been closely involved with the organisation since its inception and remains in regular contact with its relief team in Gaza. Drawing on this longstanding work, he will reflect on the profound and ongoing psychological impact of war while highlighting the creativity, resilience and hope that continue to sustain Palestinian communities.
Concluding Dialogue: Integrating the Day
Drawing together the themes that have emerged across the conference, members of the Universal Ethical Framework working group will consider how the Framework can support clinicians in responding to injustice, bearing witness, truth-telling and professional responsibility.
