Living Soils Field Day 2026
About this Event
Learn practical in-field soil health assessment skills as we spend the evening visiting three urban farms practicing soil health principles!
Join the Living Soils Collective, the Utah Food Coalition, and the Utah Soil Health Partnership for a Living Soils Field Day!
The Living Soils Field Day will bring together farmers, gardeners, soil experts, and the like to discuss building healthy soils for healthy communities in the Great Basin Region.
Our hope is that through education, conversations, and hands-on learning, we can empower small producers to adopt soil health principles in their own operations and build a community-of-practice to which local growers can turn for resources and support.
This year's event will be held at Wasatch Community Gardens' Farm Incubator Group Site (FIGS) in South Salt Lake. FIGS is a 3-acre site that hosts incubator farmers who are ready to scale up their operations, providing land, shared infrastructure, and a community of growers working toward similar goals. We'll visit three farms on the site whose producers are part of WCG's Farm Incubator Program and are incorporating soil health principles into their operations: Ringleberry Farm, Orenda Urban Farm, and Flower Boy Farm.
At each farm, we'll hear from the producers about their operation and how they're centering soil health — from interpreting land use history and mitigating soil contamination concerns to building healthy soils in an urban setting. We'll learn what's worked, what hasn't, and how these growers are adapting soil health principles to small urban spaces.
Following the presentations, we'll gather for a locally prepared dinner — a chance to connect with fellow members of the local growing community and hear from FIGS growers. More details on the meal to come!
This is an EVENING event, running from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Dinner will be provided.
We'll stay in the shade as much as possible, but it will be hot outside — please come prepared for the heat with water and sun protection (hat, sunscreen, etc.). Parking information and arrival instructions will be shared with registered attendees closer to the event.
We work hard to keep costs down, and all proceeds go directly toward covering programming and event costs. If cost is a barrier, please reach out — we're happy to offer support and scholarships. We want this event to be accessible to everyone.
Space is limited. Please wait to register until you're sure you can attend, and reach out to let us know if you can no longer attend after you've registered. We want to be sure we have space for as many community members as possible. Thank you!

About the Producers
Danielle Ringle — Ringleberry Farm Ringleberry Farm is a CSA farm run entirely by Danielle Ringle, who has been growing veggies in the Salt Lake Valley for five years. Ringleberry specializes in half shares geared toward smaller households, with enough produce to nourish 1–2 people, and also offers full shares for 2–4 people. With soil-focused, no-spray growing practices, Danielle grows produce that's healthy for both people and the earth. Website | Instagram
Zach Williams — Orenda Urban Farm Zach and his family found their passion for growing food after purchasing their first home in 2016 — a place that happened to come with a garden. Building on years of gardening experience, Zach spent a season working with The Green Urban Lunchbox to gain the knowledge needed to start farming. Orenda Urban Farm has since expanded from that first garden to include an additional lot in the Salt Lake City area and most of the home property. With plenty of lessons learned and more to come, Zach is thrilled to be growing good food for the good people of his community. Website | Instagram
AJ Johnson — Flower Boy Farm Flower Boy Farm is an urban flower farm based in South Salt Lake, run by AJ Johnson, who has been farming since 2023. The farm hosts regular U-Pick workshops and community events with the intent of connecting people to the natural world and to each other. The beauty of locally grown, freshly picked flowers is unmatched — come find out for yourself! Website | Instagram
