Cast Iron Kid is an acoustic trio digging into the new and old of folk and country from here and away. They’re part indie songwriters, part bush balladeers, part bluegrass pickers, and often all three at once. There are no drums in sight, but their sound is far from quiet, driven by rolling banjo and dobros, guitars and the three-part harmonies of Tim Beau Bennett, Michael Howell and Tim Meaco.
The band plays original songs with modern sensibilities, but you can hear the influence of classic storytellers like Paul Kelly and Arlo Guthrie woven through their lyrics. Of course they travel with a deep tank of covers from Americana, Australian classics, and traditional folk tunes. Catch them live and you'll get a show that shifts easily between serious ballads and full-room singalongs.
