Wombats Crossing is a Celtic trio featuring Christine Wheeler (voice, flute, guitar), Rebecca Daniel (voice, violin) and Leigh Birkett (voice, guitar). Performing in the spirit of a chamber music ensemble, the trio weaves a rich blend of strength and delicacy—three finely matched voices in harmony, Rebecca’s melt-your-heart violin playing, Leigh’s boundless harmonic invention on guitar, and Christine’s evocative Irish flute and whistle.Christine spent many years touring with Musica Viva and is the founder and continuing director of The Heathens, Blackheath’s much-loved community choir. Rebecca’s distinguished career as a soloist and orchestral violinist has shaped her deep love of beautiful melody, which she finds in abundance in the rich traditions of Celtic song and instrumental music. She also leads the Blue Mountains–based classical Kanimbla Quartet. Leigh, who also collaborates with singer-songwriter Martin, is a highly skilled and sensitive guitarist whose playing brings depth and sparkle to the ensemble.
All proceeds from the concert will go towards repairing the disintegrating stone masonry on the church outdoor walls.
