Reg Pengelly – “Thomas Hardy and the Well-Beloved" We welcome to our March event Reg Pengelly, who is a volunteer Tour Guide with the National Trust at Hardy’s Birthplace and Max Gate. Reg has published two books about Hardy’s novels and is a member of the Thomas Hardy Society.
Reg’s talk will cover relevant aspects of Hardy’s life that resonate with his story telling and, in particular his relationship with women.
Thomas Hardy remains one of the finest poets and authors in the English language. In his day he was the most highly paid author in the world. His novels and short stories are set in the fictional region of “Wessex,” and most are set in Dorset. His characters are based upon people he knew, many from his own family but some were based upon a variety of women that he was attracted to.
Copies of Reg’s book “Hardy PDQ” will be available at a discounted price of £10 (cash only please).
If you would like to attend this event, please book your place along with payment by 5 March 2026 (the Thursday before the event date) as numbers are required to be advised to the venue.
