Live from Ecuador: Cloud Forest Birding II

The Mindo region of Ecuador, nestled in the lush cloud forests of the Andean foothills, is a birder's paradise renowned for its breathtaking biodiversity. Home to over 500 bird species, this vibrant ecosystem offers an unparalleled experience for enthusiasts seeking hummingbirds, dazzling tanagers, and colorful barbets. The area’s mix of montane cloud forests and subtropical habitats, combined with its strategic location along migratory pathways, makes it one of the world’s premier birding destinations.

In the second session of a two-part winter series featuring the winged jewels of Mindo, resident expert and Ecuador Nature Tours owner Nelson Apolo will introduce live many of the great specialties that make this destination a top on any birding itinterary west of Quito. Some of the featured birds we'll be seeking out today include: Long-billed Starthroat, Violet-bellied Hummingbird, Ecuadorian Thrush, Dusky-faced Tanager, Orange-fronted Barbet, and Crimson-breasted Finch.

This virtual birding session will run 60-75 minutes. We recommend joining live for optimal engagement, but a recording will be provided for participants who cannot attend in real-time.

Participants will be sent a Zoom link prior to the event. IAS member tickets are $15 and non-member tickets are $20. A percentage of proceeds directly benefits habitat conservation and education in Ecuador through the Mumford and Keller Grants & Scholarships Program.
