On Sunday, June 8th, The Mahoning Drive-In Theater proudly presents a first in our 76-year history, a special 100th anniversary 35mm presentation of the silent Universal Monster classic THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, with live organ accompaniment!See Lon Chaney in arguably his most iconic role, as the disfigured Phantom living in the sewers below a Paris opera house, moved to dastardly deeds by his love of a beautiful singer and his desire to hear her vocalize his compositions. Shocking in its day and still packing a visual punch in the present, Chaney’s Phantom is an unforgettable image, and his tortured artist driven to madness is a screen presence that still moves audiences a century after it first filled screens.
As an extra special added attraction, we’ll have master organist Ian Fraser joining us to provide live organ accompaniment to the film, filling the night with music and adding his own personal flair to the proceedings, taking you back to how audiences originally experienced the film in 1925, and likely no Drive-In audience ever has! The music of the night has never quite sounded like this!
