“The spirit of folk music is people working together. Joe is a fantastic singer who carries on the traditions.”
— Pete Seeger
For more than 25 years, Joe Jencks has been a steadfast and soulful presence on the international folk circuit. An award-winning songwriter and celebrated vocalist, Joe brings together conservatory training, Irish heritage, and a working-class sensibility to create music that is deeply rooted, socially aware, and profoundly human.
Joe’s rich lyric baritone carries both strength and tenderness. His songs explore immigration, labor history, faith, justice, and belonging. They are always grounded in melody and story. His 2022 release The Coming of the Years draws from more than a decade of travels in Ireland, weaving personal history with broader themes of heritage and migration. Critics have praised the album for its warmth, craftsmanship, and emotional clarity.
Beyond performance, Joe is a cultural ambassador and educator. He has served as a U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassador, worked with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, and lent his harmony arranging talents to dozens of recordings. Onstage, he blends humor, history, and song in a way that feels intimate and communal.
At Caffè Lena’s Little Folks Show, expect an hour of beautiful singing, thoughtful storytelling, and songs that open the heart while calling us toward our better selves. Joe Jencks doesn’t simply perform—he connects.
Bring the family, clap along, and discover music that celebrates every story.
