Literary Intimacies and Reclamation of Body as Sovereignty and Wellness

Please join us for a special evening which invites Cree writer and academic Dr. Billy-Ray Belcourt and Cherokee professor, author, and cultural critic Dr. Daniel Heath Justice into conversation to discuss their shared experiences and reflections as it relates to the topic of Literary Intimacies and Reclamation of Body as Sovereignty and Wellness.

We invite you to learn firsthand from both speakers about the intentions of their writing, the meaning behind their works, and the innovative and powerful ways to support ethical encounters with Indigenous literatures.

In the spirit of promoting nutrition and wellness security on campus, we ask that you bring an item to contribute to our resource pantry that is located in the Indigenous Education Network at OISE. Items may include: non-perishable food, baby formula, personal care and hygiene products, etc.

Doors will open at 5:30pm at the Lawson Centre for Sustainability - Fourth Floor Pavilion (25 Devonshire Place, Toronto, ON). This gathering is an open community event and all those 16+ are welcome to attend.

This event is hosted in partnership with Trinity Reads, a campus-wide reading campaign that encourages the U of T community to read collectively and gather over big ideas. This year's theme is education and wellness, featuring shortlisted titles A Minor Chorus, The Story of Your Life, Black Boys Like Me and Is This A Cry For Help? Join them for author events throughout the year.

We have also partnered with Another Story Bookshop! They are a progressive independent bookstore with a wide ranging selection of books for children and adults. Since 1987, Another Story has been bringing great books to new readers, with an emphasis on social justice, equity, and diversity.
