Duration: 7 Hours
Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Location:Michelle's Studio, 36 Hatter St, Unit 2
Capture the power and serenity of falling water. Have you ever struggled to make water look like it’s actually moving? In this intensive one-day workshop, you will learn the secrets to painting realistic, dynamic waterfalls. Whether you want to capture a misty forest stream or a powerful mountain drop, this class will give you the technical tools to bring your canvas to life.
Led by award winning landscape artist Michelle Reid, you will be guided through a step-by-step process—from blocking in the dark, craggy rocks to "scumbling" the delicate white spray of the basin.
What You’ll Learn
- The Physics of Flow: Understanding how water breaks over rocks and where the "highlights" actually live.
- Color Mixing for Depth: Moving beyond "just blue" to create deep greens, teals, and wet-stone grays.
- Brushwork & Texture: Using fan brushes and palette knives to create foam, mist, and splash.
- Atmospheric Perspective: How to make the background trees look distant and the waterfall feel right in front of you.
The Day’s Flow
- 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Introduction & Live Demo. [Your Name] will demonstrate the "Wet-on-Wet" technique for the initial background layers.
- 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Underpainting & Structure. Students begin blocking in the landscape and the "skeleton" of the waterfall.
- 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM: Lunch / Socializing.
- 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM: The Details. Adding the "white water," reflections, and final highlights.
- 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Group critique, final strokes, and clean-up.
