Join us for a hands-on Block Printing and Lino Cut workshop where participants will learn how to design, carve, and print their own artwork
About this Event

Participants will explore the creative process of designing, carving and printing their own custom lino stamps. Learn the basics of relief printmaking while creating a unique design, either by drawing their own image onto soft lino or selecting from a variety of pre-drawn designs.

Throughout the workshop, participants will be guided through the process, including simple design planning, safe carving techniques, ink rolling, and printing methods. Participants will experiment with different printing techniques and create finished print to take home.

Participants are also welcome to bring their own items, such as shirts, jackets, jeans, or bags, to personalize with their designs. The instructors will provide demonstrations and guidance throughout, creating a relaxed and supportive environment where participants can work at their own pace.

Suitable for all ages. All printing materials provided.

Please note that fabric ink typically takes 24 to 72 hours to fully cure. If you choose to print on your own item, you will need to transport it carefully after the workshop to avoid smudging or transferring the ink before it has dried.

About your instructor:
Hands on Creative is a collaborative art and craft practice led by Kenna and Amber, two educators with a shared passion for creativity, learning, and bringing people together through making. Both Kenna and Amber hold Bachelor of Education degrees in Secondary Education from the University of Alberta and bring their love of teaching into every workshop they facilitate.

Working primarily with soft lino blocks, carving tools, inks, brayers, and a variety of printing surfaces, Hands on Creative focuses on making printmaking approachable for all skill levels. They are especially drawn to lino carving and block printing for the balance between creativity and process, from the calming, hands-on experience of carving to the surprise and experimentation of revealing each finished print.

This programming is brought to you by Alberta Craft Gallery + Shop in partnership with the Edmonton Downtown Business Association. Each week from May 16 – October 10, Alberta Craft will be hosting hands-on craft workshops and programming at the 104th Street Famers Market from 10:30 am – 2 pm. Programming includes a mix of drop-in sessions and pre-registered workshops.
