Take your Lindy Hop to new heights (literally!) in this exciting aerials workshop designed specifically for beginner aerialists. Air steps have been thrilling swing dance crowds ever since Frankie Manning and Frieda Washington stunned the Savoy Ballroom with the very first Lindy Hop air step back in 1935. Since then, these dynamic and gravity-defying moves have become a hallmark of performances, competitions, and late-night jam circles around the world.
In this workshop, you’ll learn fun, achievable aerials with a strong focus on safe and effective technique. Perfect for dancers looking to add a touch of show-stopping flair to their repertoire.
Sarah and Evan are two of Australia’s most celebrated swing dancers and most experienced Lindy Hop instructors. Known for their dynamic style, precise technique, and infectious energy, Sarah & Evan are the ideal guides to help you safely and confidently explore the thrilling world of Lindy Hop air steps. Whether it’s your first time attempting a lift or you’re ready to refine your technique, you’ll be in expert hands.
This workshop is suitable for swing dancers with knowledge of the fundamentals of swing dancing - it will be helpful to know how to do a 6-count basic, 8-beat swing out and Jockey (side by side) Charleston.
SCHEDULE:
*Please arrive a few minutes before the advertised start time, to check in and be ready to dance at the start of the session.*
10.15am – 12.30pm Aerials 1 – Let’s Get Flying: No aerials experience required.
12.30pm – 1.30pm lunch 1.30pm – 3.45pm Aerials 2 – Let’s Fly Some More: This session is for those who’ve done Aerials 1 or have previous aerial training.
**Bookings open 6pm Friday 25 July**
Book for either the full workshop, or for only the first session (Beginner aerials), or for only the second session (must have previous aerials experience). Attendance is by online registration only.
Pair Passes only (1 Base + 1 Flyer) – you must register with a partner, and we will not change partners throughout the workshop.
LOCATION: Melbourne City Ballroom, Level 3/673 Bourke St Melbourne (enter from Godfrey St, follow the signs and take the lift to the 3rd floor.)
Centrally located on Bourke St between Spencer St and King St, on the corner of Godfrey St (near Movenpick Hotel), close to Southern Cross Station and several tram lines.
