About this Event

Welcome to ‘Putting Lincolnshire’s Archaeology on the Map’ with Richard Watts event at Grantham Museum!

Join us for a fascinating journey through Lincolnshire's rich archaeological past. Discover hidden treasures, ancient artifacts, and uncover the mysteries of our historical heritage.

Lincolnshire is a county rich in fascinating history and archaeology, with evidence ranging from our earliest Stone Age inhabitants, earthworks of many deserted medieval villages, and military structures from 20th century conflicts, amongst many other captivating remains. Evidence of this abundant heritage is detailed in the Lincolnshire Historic Environment Record (LHER), the database of all the known archaeological sites, finds and historic buildings in the county. In this talk, Richard Watts will give details about how information in the HER can be accessed, along with describing how you can make the best use of a wide range of other online resources and educational tools to investigate the past of your local area.

About your speaker - Richard Watts, Senior Historic Environment Records Officer (Lincolnshire County Council)

Manager of the Lincolnshire Historic Environment Record (HER) since January 2018 – the HER is the database of all the known archaeological sites, finds, historic buildings and heritage assets in the county. It provides the evidence base on which decisions regarding land management, and the impacts of development and change on the historic environment can be assessed.

Was previously the Lincolnshire HER Assistant (from September 2013), and the Yorkshire Dales National Park HER Assistant prior to that (from March 2009), and had worked as a Field Archaeologist on sites across Britain for 5 years before that.

This in-person event is a must-visit for history buffs, archaeology enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the past. Don't miss this unique opportunity to delve into Lincolnshire's history at Grantham Museum!
