About this Event
Part of I Like It Here: A New Season Celebrating Community, Human Connection and Love, a series of 8 screenings presented by Grassmarket Community Picturehouse and the Edinburgh Film Guild.
A surreal comedy drama, in which a Syrian refugee finds himself on a remote Scottish isle awaiting the result of his asylum application.
Winner: Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Writer, BAFTA Awards, Scotland.
“There are simple moments here that will break and remake you. Sublime.”(Time Out)
Director “Ben Sharrock announces himself as a master of atmospheric film-making. The narrative balances surreal comedy with stark tension, capturing both the absurdities of waiting for UK asylum and the uncomfortable mix of local Scottish hospitality and casual prejudice.” (The Guardian)
