Lightbulb Summer: Redbrick Builders Club
About this Event
Through films, inventions, engineering, archaeology and creativity, families can explore extraordinary objects and stories from the museum displays before bringing their own ideas to life through LEGO.
Each Wednesday drop in between 11.30am and 1.30pm to Tate Hall for a different LEGO theme each week.
There is then time for a lunch break before the free family film starts in the Leggate Theatre from 2.30pm. Please book your film tickets separately via our Eventbrite film page.
Programme
Wednesday 5 August
Ancient Worlds, Archaeology & Discovery
Discovery, creativity and excavation inspired by real archaeological research from the University’s Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology department.
Young builders can create their own ancient civilisation; design archaeological digs; and rebuild lost ruins and ancient cities!

Wednesday 12 August
Food, Sustainability & Invention
Explore how food connects people, cultures, and sustainability.
Inspired by a community cookbook created by refugees, alongside historic Cunard cruise menu cards, come and create imaginative LEGO machines designed to tackle real-world food challenges such as transporting food sustainably, encouraging healthy eating and feeding growing communities.

Wednesday 19 August
Transport, Travel & Future Worlds
Explore how transport has shaped journeys across oceans, roads, and even outer space through objects featured in the Lightbulb Moments.
Taking inspiration from Cunard artefacts, a racing car designed by university students and our science-fiction collections, we invite you to invent your own LEGO creations, which could include: eco-friendly vehicles; futuristic racing machine; or spaceships to explore distant planets
Followed by The Lego Movie at 2.30pm. Book tickets for the film via Eventbrite.
Wednesday 26 August
Master Builders
Become a Master Builder as we celebrate engineering, invention, and creativity inspired by our iconic Victoria Building.
Use colourful bricks to engineer your own soot-resistant walls, multi-purpose hubs, mosaic patterns and even your own ‘redbrick’ walls! Bring your creativity and construct the next great landmark of the future.
Followed by The Lego Movie 2 at 2.30pm. Book tickets for the film via Eventbrite.
