Libraries Give Us Power: Democracy & Information Disorder

Libraries are important community spaces where people can access trusted information, engage in meaningful discussions and connect with one another. Amid concerns about rising polarisation fuelled by misinformation and disinformation, how do we rebuild trust, participation and civic confidence?

Dr Claire Bynner is a Lecturer at the School of Education, University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on participatory democracy, community engagement and public participation.

Sir John Curtice is a Professor of Practice in politics and a leading expert on public opinion and electoral behaviour.

Dr Ruth Lightbody is a Senior Lecturer in politics with research examining deliberative democracy and public participation, and how they can be used to implement policy changes that tackle social inequalities and environmental issues.
