LHG Councillors Breakfast

Labour Housing Group (LHG), is delighted to be organising a councillors’ breakfast at Labour Party Conference.

Councillors and the local and combined authorities they lead are at the heart of Labour's vision for government. They build and maintain our homes, they crack down on rogue landlords, and they support those at the sharpest end of the housing crisis.

This event will take place from 08:00 - 09:00 on Tuesday 29th September in LHG’s Housing Zone, in the Lower Level ACC Arena inside the secure zone.

This breakfast serves as an opportunity to celebrate the work of Labour in local government, to share experience from across our geographies. Invites to this reception are being reserved for councillors with a special expertise in housing, including council leaders, portfolio holders, and chairs of committees.

As Labour enters its third year in government, this breakfast aims to answer some fundamental questions including:

• How can local authorities work together to provide the homes we most need?
• What can we do to drive up standards in temporary accommodation for families experiencing homelessness?
• What support do those experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping need in order to find long-term stable homes?
• What tools do local authorities need to enforce poor standards in private renting, social housing, and temporary accommodation?

This event is in partnership with Justlife, a charity working to make temporary accommodation short, safe and healthy. Justlife provides one-to-one housing, health and wellbeing support to people living in temporary accommodation, helping them overcome barriers and move towards a settled home. Alongside its frontline services, Justlife works with local authorities, national government and people with lived experience to tackle the wider systemic issues that keep people trapped in homelessness.
