Please be sure to stand your ground. Do not fire unless fired upon. But if they mean to have a war, let it begin here."
— Captain John Parker, Lexington Green
Most people have heard of Paul Revere's Midnight Ride and the "shot heard 'round the world." But how much of these famous stories is fact, and how much is legend?
Join us as we explore the dramatic events of April 19, 1775, when tensions between Great Britain and its American colonies erupted into open conflict at Lexington and Concord. Widely considered the opening battles of the American Revolution, these events are among the best-documented moments in American history.
Discover how a British mission to seize colonial weapons sparked resistance from local militias made up of ordinary citizens. Learn about the midnight alarm, the confrontation on Lexington Green, and the famous shot that marked the beginning of a war for independence. Together, we'll examine the people, places, and lasting impact of the day that set a revolution in motion and forever changed the course of history.
This presentation is the final installment of our three-part series, Road to Independence: Sparks That Ignited a Revolution, as the Museum of North Texas History celebrates America 250. Presented by MNTX Director of Learning & Engagement, Morgan Meyer, this special Lunch & Learn is the perfect way to kick off a historic summer.
