Lewes Food Banks Summer Collection

Saturday 18 July our Lewes Food Banks Summer collection outside Aldi, Tesco and Waitrose all day.

All day collecting - but nobody does more than a single one hour 'shift.'

Each year the long school summer holidays see child food poverty rates soar. Charities have therefore welcomed a government 'cost of living boost' including targeted cuts to food prices.

However while around 400,000 fewer children were living in food poverty in April 2026 compared to a yearf previously because of the end to the two-chid limit on benefits lprojections from the Joseph Rowntree Trust indicate 4.2 million children will still be living in food poverty in 2029.

Shouldn't everything possible be done to reverse this human tragedy affecting millions of children in our society? Absolutely, yes

But families in Lewes dependent on our town's food banks cannot afford to wait for politicians to catch up with the sheer scale of child food poverty in our country.

So for now our summer food banks collection will help ensure no child in Lewes goes hungry overr the school holidays. .

During the day our collectors will provide shoppers with a shopping list of food items. Our request to shoppers is to add just one additional purchase from our list to their shop and donate to the stall we'll have outside the stores. Added together this amounts to one huge total.

If you can't help please donate every pound donated will be used to fund the items Lewes Food Banks have told us they need in the greatest number. Click the 'get tickets' button and choose 'donation' we'll then combine these items donors have helped pay for with our collection.

The all-day collection is distributed direct to the three Lewes food banks: Fitzjohns, Landport, Malling plus the Lewes Community Fridge.
