For children aged 8+
Learn how to solder a flashing LED Christmas tree in this illuminating children’s workshop.
What you’ll learn:
- The basics of electronic circuits
- About different electrical components and what they do
- How to solder safely
What do you need to bring?
All equipment is provided, and you’ll get to take your Christmas tree home. All you need to bring is a sparkling can-do attitude!
Workshop dates and duration
Each session is 60 minutes. Sign up for one of the following:

How to book
- One ticket admits one child and their accompanying adult (adults do not need to book separate tickets for themselves)
- Attendees must be aged 8+ due to the soldering aspect of this workshop
- Children under the age of 12 must have an adult with them throughout the workshop and cannot be left unsupervised
- Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate younger siblings or other non-participating adults and children due to the size of the workshop space
Booking fee
This event is free to attend. We charge a £5 booking fee, which is refunded on attending the event. We do this in order to have a good idea of numbers (and kit!) All refunds are processed within seven working days.
You will also have the option of donating your booking fee to MadLab, to help fund future community-led events just like this one.

Waiting list
Our workshops sell out really quickly. If your chosen day and time are sold out, email [email protected] asking to be added to the waiting list. Tickets are released to the waiting list on a first-come, first-serve basis.

About the workshop lead
A former computer science teacher, Claire Wicher heads up Education and Skills at MadLab. She’s passionate about making digital skills accessible and supporting people into digital careers. Claire is also Trustee and Chief Emoji Officer for Django Girls - a global charity dedicated to curating positive first experiences with code for women and non-binary people.
