Lenten Series - World Religions

Our Lenten series on World Religions will provide an introductory survey of the major religious traditions around the globe, examining their histories, core beliefs, practices, sacred texts, and key figures, with a focus on understanding the diverse perspectives and cultural contexts of each religion.

All classes will be taught in-person by Fr. Cameron and a guest speaker on Wednesdays at 6:30pm in the Guild Hall:

• April 2: Abrahamic Traditions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam Speaker: Fr. Cameron Ayers Guest Speaker: Rabbi Noah Westreich, Assistant Rabbi, Congregation Emanu-El
• April 9: Eastern Traditions Speaker: Fr. Cameron Ayers
• April 16: Folk Religions and Native Spirituality Speaker: Fr. Cameron Ayers Guest Speaker: Ro Morsby on Lucumí (La Regla de Ocha, or also Santería) and Jamaican spiritualism (Palo, and Obeah).

What is the Goal?

The class will seek to prioritize open dialogue, mutual respect for diverse beliefs, education about different faiths, active listening, and seeking common ground across religions, while actively challenging harmful stereotypes and promoting peaceful coexistence.

Attendance?

Each class is a standalone class. You do not have to attend all three, although doing so will give you a great overview of world religions.

What to expect?

6:30pm - 7:00pm: Introduction lecture by Fr. Cameron Ayers

7:00pm - 8:00pm: Guest Speaker
