From the jungles of Nagaland to close encounters with polar bears, Gajan will share an in-depth look behind his photography adventures before guiding guests on an photographic experience through the streets of New York.

Throughout the afternoon, Gajan will share his approach to capturing movement, working with changing light, building compelling compositions, and telling authentic visual stories in dynamic, unscripted environments. You'll gain insight into how he reads a scene, anticipates decisive moments, and transforms what unfolds in front of the lens into intentional, impactful photographs.

A limited number of Leica SL3-P cameras and SL lenses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, giving participants the opportunity to experience the system beyond the showroom in a real-world shooting environment. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own camera, and all camera systems are welcome.

Guests wishing to borrow Leica equipment should bring a valid photo ID, a credit card (to be held for the duration of the event), and a compatible memory card, as memory cards will not be provided.

Bring your curiosity, your creative perspective, and comfortable walking shoes. Space is intentionally limited to ensure a hands-on, conversational experience with plenty of opportunities to learn and create.

Please note that all Leica loaner equipment must be returned to the Leica team before the conclusion of the event.

Gajan Balan is a photographer and director based in Toronto. To him, cameras are passports and photography is time travel. His visuals are an exercise in world-building that moves across portraiture, fashion, street, and documentary.
This approach has earned him multiple awards, gallery exhibitions, publications, and an ambassadorship with Leica Camera. It sends him across the globe and has allowed him to cultivate a worldwide family of trusted partners. His time is now divided between crafting meaningful visuals for commercial clients and highlighting humanistic stories that draw deep inspiration from his culture and heritage.
Quite simply, his purpose is to travel the world, create compelling stories, and look to inspire the next generation of creatives.
