Drama režiséra Kena Loache s názvem Kes, které Britský filmový institut zařadil mezi deset nejlepších britských filmů dvacátého století, je výstižným portrétem dělnické třídy severní Anglie. Billy (v podání úžasně přirozeného Davida Bradleyho) je patnáctiletý syn yorkshirského horníka. Jediný únik z bezvýchodného života mu skýtá přátelství s divokou poštolkou. Snímek Kes vnesl na plátna kin společensko-politická témata, v nichž se Loach začal angažovat při své práci pro BBC. Britskému filmu s poetikou "rozhněvaných mladých mužů" z šedesátých let minulého století dodal nový punc autenticity prostřednictvím natáčení v reálných lokacích a s neprofesionálními herci.
