🧠Lecture: "Rethinking Social Policy: Experiment, Evaluate, Reform"
🎤 Speaker: Prof. Davide Viviano
How do we decide who should benefit from anti-poverty programs when funds are limited? How can we rigorously evaluate development projects in rural villages—or predict whether a policy that works abroad could succeed at home?
In this accessible lecture, Prof. Davide Viviano will explore how experiments and quasi-experiments can guide smarter social policy. He will walk through innovative methods for designing and testing interventions, including the use of remotely sensed outcomes like satellite imagery, and approaches that account for network spillovers and questions of generalizability.
Dr. Davide Viviano is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Harvard University. His research combines economics and data science to develop and validate statistical methods for social-science applications, with a focus on policy design and causal inference. Before joining Harvard, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford GSB sponsored by Nobel laureate Guido Imbens. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from UC San Diego and a Master’s in Data Science from Pompeu Fabra University.
