🧠 Lecture: "Ulysses S. Grant’s World Tour: The Dawn of American Empire"
🎤 Speaker: Author, Louis L. Picone
Join us for a fascinating evening as Professor Louis L. Picone brings to life Ulysses S. Grant’s extraordinary three-year journey around the world from 1877 to 1880. What began as post-presidential travel quickly turned into a global sensation, as Grant was greeted by enormous crowds and honored by leaders across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Discover how Grant rode elephants and camels in India, climbed Mount Vesuvius, sailed the Nile, and even helped negotiate a peace settlement between China and Japan. His unprecedented voyage showcased America’s rising influence on the world stage and marked an early moment in the dawn of American empire.
Louis L. Picone is the award-winning author of "Ulysses’s Odyssey: Ulysses S. Grant’s World Tour at the Dawn of American Empire," "Grant’s Tomb," and "The President Is Dead!" He is Chairman of the Grover Cleveland Presidential Library & Museum, holds a Master’s in History, teaches at William Paterson University, and has appeared on C-SPAN, BBC, NPR, and more.
