🧠 Lecture: "The Neuroscience of Vision"
🎙️ Speaker: Dr. Heidi Hernandez
The perception of sight is quite literally much more than meets the eye. In this engaging lecture, “The Neuroscience of Vision,” Dr. Heidi Hernandez will explore how the eye receives light and transmits images to the brain’s primary visual cortex. Using optical illusions and real-world examples, she’ll reveal how our brains interpret—and sometimes misinterpret—the world around us.
You’ll leave with a broader understanding and deeper appreciation of your own vision and its crucial role in everyday life.
Dr. Hernandez is an assistant professor and clinical optometrist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), specializing in neuro-ophthalmic disease—conditions of the brain and nervous system that affect the eyes. She earned her BS in Neuroscience and Doctor of Optometry (OD) from UAB, then completed an advanced residency in neuro-ophthalmic disease through the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Drexel University.
