🧠 Lecture: "The History of Elvis Movies"
🎤 Speaker: Professor Isabella Tecson
The king of rock and roll was also the king of the silver screen for nearly a decade, starring in over 30 films that reshaped both Hollywood and his own myth. How did he pull it off—and at what cost?
In this lively lecture, Professor Isabella Tecson dives into the complicated movie career of Elvis Presley, unpacking how his films mirrored, distorted, and sometimes defined his real life. From music-packed romps to melodramatic curiosities, we’ll trace how Elvis’s on-screen persona evolved alongside his fame, his artistry, and the pressures around him. Expect a little MORE conversation on the greatest artist of all time—suspicious (and curious!) minds are more than welcome.
Isabella Tecson is an adjunct professor of screenwriting, creative writing, and English at Queens College and CCNY, where she got her creative nonfiction MFA. A former film critic for Asian Cinevue and veteran script doctor, she has worked on numerous documentaries and indie films with her “structure first, ego’s later” approach. She pairs rigorous research with a theatre-kid sense of humour and a lifelong devotion to movie-watching.
