🧠Lecture: Mother Nature Knows Best: Exploring Her Origins & Moods
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Moiya McTier
Everyone’s heard of Mother Nature, an ancient and powerful figure in stories across cultures. But where did she come from, why is she so moody, and what can we do now that we’ve clearly gotten on her bad side?
Join astrophysicist, folklorist, and writer Dr. Moiya McTier for a fascinating evening that weaves together science and story. She’ll trace the deep folkloric roots of Mother Nature, unpack how different cultures have understood her temperament, and connect those myths to our very real, modern climate challenges. Along the way, you’ll explore what these tales reveal about our relationship with the natural world—and how we might repair it.
Dr. McTier shares her joint expertise through her astronomy podcast, Pale Blue Pod, and her debut book, The Milky Way: An Autobiography of Our Galaxy. Her upcoming book, Mothers of Invention: A History of Creativity from the Greek Muses, will be published this August.
