🧠 Lecture: "Hysteria to Hormones: How Women Got Labeled as ‘Crazy’"
🎤 Speaker: Professor Jennifer Weaver, LMHC
Join us for an enlightening evening as Professor Jennifer Weaver, a licensed psychotherapist, unpacks the history behind labeling women as “crazy.” From archaic notions of hysteria to modern conversations about hormones and mental health, this talk traces how cultural beliefs and medical practices have shaped the way women’s emotions and experiences are perceived and diagnosed.
Professor Weaver will explore how these historical patterns still influence contemporary mental health care, relationships, and the stories women tell about themselves. You’ll gain insight into how gender bias can affect diagnosis and treatment, and what it means to move toward more compassionate, accurate understandings of women’s mental health.
Jennifer Weaver is a licensed psychotherapist and graduate professor based in Rhode Island, bringing both clinical experience and academic expertise to this engaging lecture.
