About this Event
A fast-paced course begins with the art of enameling on glass, to then incorporate those painted panels into compositionally strong, stained glass windows. Fired enamel glass offers students the avenue to the truly unique, personalized artwork; a perfect course for those interested to incorporate imagery into their work. Old school leading sees projects then realized, the truly professional completed product at the course’s completion.
With 100 years of making shared between them, Dick Weiss and John Drury offer this East Coast follow-up, to their 2024 working union, at the Pilchuck Glass school. Steeped in the traditions of stain glass production, Weiss allows Drury then his favorite collaborative position, tweaking any medium with a thorough knowledge of capital “A”, art. Think outside the box – with respect to the how-to of proper window building and conceptually sound making.
This weeklong offering is sure to bolster your creative drive, and to propel your practice to the next level. Get fresh.
Additional work time for intensive students: Students will also have access to additional hours in the flat shop, without instruction, on Tuesday - Friday from 5-8pm. Students must be able to work safely in the studio, and be able to set up their area without needing instruction. Students participating in student hours will need to be approved by the instructor and TA’s.
What to Expect: This is for beginners but intermediate level students are welcome. There will be a balance between demonstration and practice time, and the students will create their own designs or use patterns using colorful glass. Designs will be relatively simple and limited to 7.5” x 9” in size. To ensure students can complete their pieces. Clean-up time is included in the duration of class, and usually the last 20 minutes of class are dedicated to cleaning your workstation. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
While working in stained glass, participants engage in seated and standing activities such as cutting and assembling glass pieces. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity. Learn more about accessibility on our website.
Eligibility: No experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.
We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at [email protected] if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.
