🧠 Lecture: "How to Appreciate Horror"
🎤 Speaker: Rebecca Frostrom
Join us for a thrilling evening as Rebecca Frostrom explores how horror reflects our culture, values, and the human condition—from ancient myths to today’s films, games, and novels. Together, we’ll unpack the “why” behind our fascination with fear and how terror on the page or screen can become a surprisingly rewarding experience.
You’ll learn practical frameworks for analyzing horror, including how to spot symbolism, recurring motifs, and universal themes that lurk beneath the jump scares. Using classic works like W.W. Jacobs’ “The Monkey’s Paw” and other chilling examples, Rebecca will guide you beyond the monsters to uncover the deeper lessons hidden within the genre.
Rebecca Frostrom is an ELA teacher from New Jersey with a lifelong passion for stories, especially horror. When she’s not in the classroom, she’s exploring the dark side of storytelling by reading novels, playing video games, and watching movies with a keen analytical eye. She also loves cats and baking—proof that even horror aficionados have a sweet side.
