🧠Lecture: "A History of Atheism: Nonbelievers Through Time & Space"
🎙️ Speaker: Kianna Mahony
Join us for a captivating evening as chaplain for nonbelievers Kianna Mahony guides us on a storytelling journey through the history of atheism, from its roots in India to its present-day expressions in the United States.
Drawing on her research, Kianna will explore how nonbelieving skeptics across regions and eras have challenged oppressive ways of life and demonstrated how atheists can live deeply ethical lives without organized religion or belief in the divine. Together, you’ll examine movements including Indian materialism, the Persian Shu'ubiyyah literature boom, and early American freethinking, revealing how these ideas helped shape human flourishing.
Kianna’s work at Harvard and MIT centers on listening to the stories of atheists in Boston and beyond and advocating for atheist ethical living in modern times. She argues that many improvements in our quality of life would not have been possible without atheism and the contributions of courageous nonbelievers throughout history.
