About this Event

With help from funding from The National Lottery Awards for All, Sunderland Young People's Bike project are pleased to offer a number of FREE learn to ride classes led by nationally accredited cycling instructors.

Our Learn to Ride class is aimed at children 5+ years and helps them to gain the basic skills and confidence needed to ride a bike safely without stabilisers. Sessions are held in a safe, traffic-free area and are suitable for complete beginners or anyone wanting to improve their balance and control.

The class teaches riders how to: Balance and glide on a bike. Start and stop safely. Pedal with confidence. Steer and turn smoothly. Use brakes correctly. Ride independently and confidently. Training is delivered by qualified instructors in a fun and supportive environment, with activities suited to each rider’s ability.

Participants are recommended to bring their own bikes and helmets where possible, although we can provide bikes and helmets for participants if required.

Meet at the Thompson Park cycling skills area. Located in the middle of the park in between the big slide and zip wire.
