Learn to Meditate with Musical Mantra Meditation
About this Event
Learn to Meditate with Musical Mantra Meditation
Did you know meditation doesn’t have to be silent?
Join us Friday nights at Bhakti Chakora Ashram for an uplifting introduction to musical mantra meditation, or kirtan, an ancient yogic practice using sacred sound, live music, and call-and-response chanting to focus the mind, open the heart, and reconnect with something deeper.
We'll begin by teaching you the mantra, how to follow along by clapping or simple shakers, different mantra melodies, and the meaning of the mantra. We'll begin playing and singing the mantra music together, gently and meditatively, allowing time to settle into the song. Over time the energy of the kirtan often builds into more joy, soul and expression through expressive singing, clapping and dance. The meditation is accompanied with live instruments: harmonium, drummings and karthals, which are traditional in Indian mantra meditation music.
The beauty of this practice is that the mantra music is designed to fill your mind, pushing out overthinking, stress or anxiety- and then open the heart. You’re welcome to sing, listen, move, sit quietly, close your eyes, or simply experience the atmosphere.
No meditation experience, musical ability, or previous knowledge of yoga philosophy is necessary. Come as you are. 🌸

MORE THAN A MEDITATION CLASS
Bhakti Chakora Ashram is a boutique urban bhakti ashram and spiritual community in Seattle’s University District.
We want bhakti to be approachable enough that someone can walk through our doors knowing absolutely nothing about meditation or Eastern spirituality, without removing the depth and tradition behind what we practice.
So if you simply want to experience a beautiful evening of music, meditation, good food, and good people, you are completely welcome.
And if the practice touches something deeper in you, there’s an entire spiritual path here to explore.
At BCA you’ll find:
- A meditation practice rooted in a living spiritual tradition, not simply a wellness technique
- Traditional bhakti yoga and Bhagavad Gita philosophy
- Opportunities to learn the meaning behind the mantras
- Kirtan alongside traditional bhajans, sacred chants, and devotional practices
- An intimate community where you can ask questions, make friends, and actually participate
- Opportunities for deeper study, spiritual practice, service, and ashram community
- Connection with an ancient guru-parampara, or lineage of spiritual teachers
- Guidance from our spiritual teacher, Srila Bhaktivedanta Vana Goswami Maharaja, along with opportunities to learn from visiting monks and teachers
- Prasadam: vegetarian and vegan food lovingly prepared and shared as part of our devotional practice
You don’t need to adopt a particular belief system to join us. Curiosity and an open heart are enough.
Come for the music. Stay for the community. Discover the path of bhakti. 🌸
