For LEAF 2026, Ka Baird presents “A thousand miles of hungry static” - a performance piece that explores the spectral forces of reality through various sonic encounters and physical movement.The piece features extended voice and microphone techniques, live-processed flutes, samples, feedback, fractured rhythms, and interfaces that both trigger and manipulate sound. The performance embodies Ka’s signature tone that is simultaneously confrontational, mysterious, visceral, and humorous.
Opening for Ka Baird is Berthoud, CO based M. Sage, who has a catalog scattered across genres and independent labels far and wide. He is also a member of the celebrated ambient jazz quartet Fuubutsushi. Equipped with clarinet, piano, and a hard drive full of field recordings, the Colorado native goes back to nature with a bewitching performance of melodic ambient soundscapes.
Expect an evening of contrasts and flowing excursions through the color-wheel of emotions.
