Call for Abstracts now open
We are pleased to announce Laws of Form 2026 (LoF26), the fourth international conference dedicated to George Spencer-Brown’s Laws of Form and the generative power of distinction.
Following LoF50 (2019), LoF22 (2022), and LoF24 (2024), LoF26 continues to expand the global community of inquiry that brings together thinkers, scholars, artists, scientists, mathematicians, philosophers, cyberneticians, engineers, and explorers from around the world.
LoF26 will be held from Monday 10 August to Friday 14 August 2026 at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge.
Rooted in Spencer-Brown’s insight that the simple act of making a distinction can give rise to form, structure, and meaning, the conference invites contributions that explore this foundational operation across diverse disciplinary and creative domains.
We welcome submissions from:
mathematics & logic
philosophy & phenomenology
cybernetics & systems theory
computation, AI, & information theory
cognitive science & psychology
art, design, & creative practice
architecture, engineering, & interdisciplinary research
Formats may include papers, panels, workshops, demonstrations, experimental sessions, and performative or creative contributions.
