Laurel Circle Lecture Series: with Dr. W. John Kress
Smithsonian Distinguished Scientist and Curator Emeritus
Our Friendship and Responsibility for Trees

Dr. W. John Kress is Distinguished Scientist and Curator Emeritus at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. He was Curator of Botany for over thirty years and formerly served as the Interim Under Secretary for Science at the Smithsonian and Director of Science in the Grand Challenges Consortia at the institution.

This event will center around Dr. Kress' recently published book, Smithsonian Trees of North America. Join us at Mount Auburn Cemetery for this special event including the following:

4:30pm - 5:30pm (open to the public): Self-Guided Walk

Explore the landscape at your own pace during this self-guided walk, where Dr. Kress and members of the Mount Auburn Horticulture Team will be stationed at select points to share insights, answer questions, and engage in informal conversation. Enjoy peak foliage among our collection of 5,000+ trees.

5:30pm - 6:30pm (ticketed): Reception and Book Signing

Enjoy a reception in Asa Gray Garden, as well as the opportunity to get a copy of Smithsonian Trees of North America signed by Dr. Kress. Books must be purchased in advance through this Eventbrite page - available as an add-on.
