𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗮: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺
The highlight of the evening will be a 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 with the legendary Angolan musician 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗮, who will share his insights into the 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 among Portuguese-speaking African countries, 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗮, 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗲, 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮-𝗕𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘂, 𝗠𝗼𝘇𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲, and 𝗦𝗮𝗼 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗲 & 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗲. 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗮, born José Adelino Barceló de Carvalho in 1942, in Benguela, Angola, is one of the most powerful cultural icons to emerge from Angola. He is known for his pioneering contributions to semba, a traditional Angolan music genre, and for blending it with elements of bossa nova, jazz, and funk. This gave him the rare freedom of movement, which he used to secretly support Angola’s fight for independence — carrying messages between exiled activists and underground resistance groups under the alias Bonga Kuenda. After spending several years in exile due to political turmoil, Bonga moved to the Netherlands in the early 1970s, where he recorded three critically acclaimed albums: 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝟳𝟮 (1972), 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝟳𝟰 (1974), and 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝟳𝟲 (1976). These albums, released by 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘇𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀, were central to his international recognition, reflecting the political and cultural them

By promoting Angolan and Angolan diasporic cultural creativity, diversity, and activism, 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗮 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗮 aims to strengthen cultural bonds within the Angolan community in the diaspora while raising awareness of Angolan heritage among a broader audience.
