About this Event

The GM Creative Health Partnership is delighted to invite you to the national launch of a Big Issue Special Edition on Creative Health, taking place on 19th May, 6.00–7.30pm at The Whitworth, Manchester.

As part of Creativity and Wellbeing Week 2026 (18–22 May), London Arts and Health, the Culture, Health & Wellbeing Alliance, and Arts & Homelessness International are taking over with a special edition dedicated to creative health. The theme, Critical Hope, explores how creative health practice can strengthen our capacity for renewal—with care, courage and possibility.First articulated by Paulo Freire, critical hope focuses on facing reality honestly while still believing that positive change is possible—and something we actively build together.

At a time of profound pressure and change—across our climate, our health and care services, and the wellbeing of our communities—critical hope creates space to affirm that good change is still possible, and that we can build it through connection, care and creativity. Join us to celebrate the launch of this special edition, and to celebrate culture and creativity as a practical, collective force for healthier, more just futures. You will hear from contributors to the edition and have the opportunity to connect with people passionate about creative health from across Greater Manchester and beyond.

Join us to celebrate the launch of the issue, purchase a copy, hear from speakers and celebrate Creativity and Wellbeing Week!
