Landshark Invitational 2026
About this Event
Event Format: The format is subject to change depending on the number of entries and surf conditions. Event organizers reserve the right to combine or change age groups depending on the number of entries. No entry is complete unless entry fee has been paid and waiver has been signed. Completed entries will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Heat information will be emailed to entrants prior to event.
Judging Criteria: Longboard: 50% traditional, 50% performance/progressive.
Longboard/Shortboard/Bodyboard/Stand-Up: Limit of 10 waves/Best 3 waves will be judged. The event organizers reserve the right to change the number of waves judged depending on surf conditions.
John Lim Memorial Costume Contest: At the first Landshark Invitational, the late ICA Justice John Lim surfed in a suit and tie and carried a briefcase (he lost the briefcase). In his honor, a prize(s) will be awarded to the surfer(s) with the best costume - entrants in this category must catch at least one wave in costume during the heat. Be creative! The 2007, 2009, and 2010 winner Greg Lui-Kwan dressed as the Superferry, a tuxedoed Landshark, and Sponge Bob. 2011 upset winner Jeff Kent came as Aquaman (recovering from a humiliating showing the year before as a Spam Musubi that left a trail of Styrofoam marine debris). Judging criteria: 95% costume/accessories, 5% surfing (must catch at least one wave in costume). Costumes leaving marine debris will be disqualified in honor of Jeff.
*Eligibility: Entrants must be (1) licensed to practice law (whether active or inactive), (2) graduated from a law school, (3) be enrolled in a law school, or (4) be the child or significant other of any of (1)-(3).
