Part ONEWelcome to our first Land Rover activity of the year! We will meet at our campsite located at 1314 Cumberland Ct. Dr. Friendship, WI (see third event photo above) around 1pm, Saturday May 3rd. Yes, the address is a "Ct. Dr." so please add that into your mapping, as there are several similar roads in the area. This is located very close to the major west-east road, Highway 21. There is a Kwik Trip for gas/supplies a mile from the campsite. Camping is primitive, but an RV bathroom is provided, as well as electricity options. Our camping is provided by fellow Club member and camp chef, Simon Nevill. Camping will be restricted to vehicle and/or tent camping only. Space will be limited to 6 vehicles for camping. No trailers. However, if you are attending the event as a non-camper only, space is not limited.
Part TWO
After our campsite arrival, we will head west about 20 miles to Hwy 21 and a right north on 9th Ave. We will explore the lesser-travelled, sandy, gravel roads of the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge (see second photo above for a generic map). The exact roads we take will be dictated by local conditions within the refuge. We will explore a part of the refuge this afternoon and head back to camp for dinner.
Part THREE
On Sunday morning, non-campers can meet us at the campsite at 1314 Cumberland Ct. Dr. Friendship, WI, and the others will pack up and head out to the Necedah Wildlife Refuge, but drive farther west, starting at Headquarters Rd. and Hwy 21. We will explore the western half of the refuge, as we make our way north, following unpaved roads. After we leave the refuge perimeter, we will take unpaved roads around Amundson Rd. (see first photo above--what could happen!?), Stout Marsh Rd., W. Fence Ln., Daniels Rd., etc. Actual routes will be dictated by weather conditions, detours and closures. After we all survive this section, we will end up at Sandhill State Wildlife Area in Babcock, WI, located at 1715 County Hwy X. This is a 7-8 mile gravel/dirt road that loops back to the entrance of the wildlife area, but it includes lookout points. There are places we can pull off and enjoy a nice Rover lunch! After lunch, that concludes the event!
Cost: FREE for Necedah Wildlife Refuge and Sandhill Wildlife Area
Difficulty Level: 1-3
Sign-Up: Directly message me (Matt Forss) as soon as you know you can make it. Please let me know if you are camping, or non-camping. Also, if you can't/don't want to drive a Land Rover, and you would like to participate in all or part of the events as a passenger in any Land Rover driven by a member, that is acceptable and counts towards your TWO event minimums for the year.
Thank you and see you then!
