Land of Monsters: An A-Z of Scary Irish Folklore Figures
About this Event
THE MONSTERS ARE LOOSE!
Join dark historian Andrew Johnston of Alternative Ulstours for an illustrated talk on the frightening cast of creatures in Irish mythology.
Andrew will recite an A-to-Z – or at least, an A-to-U, using the traditional Irish alphabet – of legendary beasts that have beguiled and bedevilled for centuries, regaling macabre tales of demons, fairies and harbingers of death.
Infamous entities such as the Banshee, the Leprechaun and the Morrigan will emerge from the Otherworld, alongside the awful likes of the Dullahan, the Fear Gorta and the Púca. The talk will explore how these fabled bogeymen have acted as warnings for children, or evoked people’s hopes, fears and desires.
So, come along, buy a drink, pull up a seat and let Andrew guide you through Ireland’s own menagerie of monsters!
