Some history of our airplane!!
"City of Port Clinton"/City of Wichita" 1928 Ford Tri-Motor
5-AT-B NC9645 Serial # 5-AT-B
First Flight on December 1st, 1928, at the Ford Factory in Dearborn, Michigan. Delivered to TAT (Transcontinental Air Transport) on January 18th, 1929. Registered as TAT No. A-3. Christened in Wichita, Kansas, on June 23rd, 1929, and named "City of Wichita". On July 8th, 1929, along with sister ship, "City of Columbus" both aircraft inaugurated the first "Coast to Coast in 48 Hours" transcontinental service ever offered in the United States utilizing both air and rail travel. The route was named the "Lindbergh Line" as Charles Lindbergh himself flew and charted the air routes the airline would follow. This aircraft holds the distinction of being the only aircraft jointly owned and flown by famed aviators Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh as they were not only pilots for TAT, but also stockholders and board members of the airline. Transcontinental Air Transport later became the more widely known airline, TWA.
This aircraft was obtained by the Liberty Aviation Museum on February 10th, 2014, and rechristened "City of Port Clinton".
