ABOUT THE COURSE
This semester the course will be shared by dance artists Nina Wollny and Anna Thu Schmidt to offer a diverse approach to contemporary dance. Classes are taught in English and Norwegian and suitable for new beginners as well as people with movement experience.

Part 1: Classes with Nina Wollny (week 3-8)
Exploring and learning about the human body and how the different parts and systems collaborate can have an interesting effect on our presence, perception and therefore on our movement. Opening our body to this heightened state of awareness can enrich, strengthen and inspire the way we dance. In each class we will explore one topic from a small simple detail to bigger connections within the human organism. The topic will be explored in different ways like free physical exploration, guided exercises. We will also explore some of the topics in connection with a partner taking care of yourself to take care of each other and learning about your own body through the other. The class gradually moves into accumulating a movement phrase that will be repeated and build further each class. In the phrase we will play with all levels of space, speed, flow and the forces that move us. I am looking forward to dance through the vinter with you!
Bio: Nina Wollny studied modern and contemporary dance at the
Rotterdam Dance Academy, now Codarts, in the Netherlands. After her graduation in 2002 she joined the company anoukvandijk dc and has worked there as dancer, rehearsal director and artistic assistant for more than 10 years. Since 2012 Nina is working with different choreographers in Europe amongst others she is regularly performing and collaborating with German choreographer Jenny Beyer at Kampnagel in Hamburg, Germany. In Norway she works with Mia Habib Productions, BodyCartographyProject and others. Nina started teaching when she was 15 as a way to deepen her own understanding of dance. In 2004 she became a Countertechnique teacher and has taught those classes and workshops in many different countries and places until 2021. Now she is following her own interests in sharing movement and dance and how it relates to the form and function of the body, through a process that is not looking for a solution or a universal answer, but rather exploring a practice of finding questions together and letting them resonate in the individuals body and movement.
Part 2: Classes with Anna Thu Schmidt (week 9-19)
Enjoy dancing with yourself and with others!
The classes offer practice in contemporary dance where we develop body awareness, discover our own unique dance, and expand our movement vocabulary. Each class starts with a gentle warm-up to connect with ourselves in a safe space and to explore our own movements through dance improvisation. After connecting with the space and each other, we continue with technical exercises, floor work, and movement phrases across the floor. The last part of the class is dedicated to composition tasks and working with choreography.
Bio: Anna Thu Schmidt is a dance artist with a passion for dance improvisation, interdisciplinary collaborations, site-specific performances, and integrated dance. She is based in Trondheim after living in Germany, the Netherlands, and Indonesia. She holds a B.A. in Dance in Education from ArtEZ (NL) and an M.A. in Dance Studies from NTNU. Besides Samtidsdans for voksne Anna also leads ImproDans Trondheim, and started up PRAXIS Trondheim and Ecstatic Dance in Trondheim. She is passionate about creating safe spaces where everyone can freely express themselves through dance. One of her main performance projects is 'How to read water' which explores the relationship between the human body and the ocean. She is a certified yoga teacher and recently started her journey into the world of aquatic bodywork. annathuschmidt.com
