About this Event
Kundalini Yoga
Come join us for a rejuvenating session of Kundalini Yoga at Self Place with kundalini instructor, Melissa Alexander! This ancient practice focuses on awakening your inner energy through dynamic movements, breathing techniques, and meditation. The primary objective of Kundalini Yoga is to awaken the full potential within us by creating a peaceful, healing union of mind, body, and Spirit. With this understanding, we are able to stand compassionately in our power and live our divine purpose.
This practice, over time strengthens the nervous system and glandular system by freeing the shakti to move up and down our spine as it intersects with our 7 main chakras (energy centers) creating strength and balance. Whether you're a beginner or experienced yogi, this event is open to all levels. Connect with like-minded individuals in a serene environment and leave feeling refreshed and centered.
What is kundalini yoga?
Kundalini yoga is an ancient healing and spiritual practice, engaged in as a way to go beyond the mind for peace, connect to the divine energy within, and open your chakras so your energy can flow freely throughout your body. During a practice of kundalini yoga, you will likely be guided through movements, breathwork, chanting, and meditation. Kundalini yoga offers some important benefits, ranging from mental to physical, and spiritual - as it aims to increase your self-awareness and consciousness.
Kundalini is the Yoga of Awareness. It is a sacred practice, whose origin can be traced back to 1000-500 BC in the region that is now southern Pakistan & northern India. Kundalini represents our divine energy (shakti), located at the base of our spine. It’s symbolized as a coiled snake.
This modality incorporates combinations of these to create a higher state of consciousness:
- Breathwork (Pranayama)
- Movement/Postures (Asana)
- Chant/Sound vibration (Mantra)
- Mudra (Hand positions)
- Banda (Tensing areas of the body)
- Meditation (in silence or with a mantra)
Each practice begins by “tuning in” with the Adi mantra “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo”, which means “I bow to the teacher within. I call on my highest consciousness.” It is chanted 3 times.
Each practice concludes with the mantra “Sat Nam”. Sat is sung slowly, Nam shortly. This means “Truth is my name”. It is chanted 3 times to close the practice in reverence to our True Selves and our connection to all life.
