This event is the New Zealand qualification selection for the Kun League Chinese 9-Ball tournament in Hangzhou, China (July 12–23).
TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW:
Kun League (full name: FURY Cue Cup Duya Junior Chinese 9-Ball League) is the world’s largest youth billiards tournament and China’s premier high-prize Chinese 9-ball event for young players. Launched by Duya Billiards, it aims to nurture young talent and promote Chinese 9-ball globally.
The champion of the Kun League main event receives a prize of RMB 100,000 (approximately NZD 25,000), as confirmed by the organizer.
Age Eligibility: Players aged 8–18 (born on or after Jan 1, 2008)
This NZ Selection Event is a qualification pathway to enter that competition.
FORMAT PRINCIPLE:
This is NOT a race-to format.
Matches are played either:
- Over a fixed number of racks, OR
- Within a fixed time limit (depending on stage)
The player with the highest total accumulated points at the end of the match will be declared the winner.
MATCH STRUCTURE:
- Early rounds: Fixed 7 racks (approx. 1.5 hours per match)
- Final: No time limit (played until completion under referee supervision)
SCORING SYSTEM (per rack):
- Big Gold (clean clearance): 10 points
- Small Gold: 7 points
- Regular Win: 4 points
- Fouls: 1–2 points depending on severity
FINAL RESULT:
The winner is determined by total accumulated points across all racks played, not by number of racks won.
TIE BREAKING RULES:
If total points are tied after all racks:
1. Higher number of Big Gold (10-point racks)
2. Higher number of Small Gold (7-point racks)
3. Higher number of Regular Wins (4-point racks)
If still tied:
- Early stages: Additional deciding rack as determined by referee
GENERAL RULES:
- Rolling break system applies
- Standard Chinese 9-Ball rules
- Fouls result in opponent free ball
- Three-foul rule applies
- Unsportsmanlike conduct may result in penalties or disqualification
ELIGIBILITY:
- Born on or after 1 January 2008
- Open nationality
- Chinese nationals must hold valid New Zealand visa or residency
QUALIFICATION:
Top players will be selected to represent New Zealand in the Kun League Hangzhou Event.
ENTRY FEE:
$100 (100% of entry fees will go directly into the prize pool. The Champion will receive full travel support, including international flight tickets and hotel accommodation for overseas competition opportunities.)
