About this Event
A Community Letter Writing Night
Join us for an evening of community, storytelling, and action as we come together to write letters in support of the Southeast Asian Deportation Relief Act (SEADRA), H.R. 7608.
Southeast Asian families in our communities, including Cambodian, Iu Mien, Hmong, Lao, and Vietnamese individuals, continue to face detention and deportation despite having built their lives in the United States. Many came here as refugees after war and displacement, and today are parents, caregivers, and deeply rooted members of our communities.
Here in Oklahoma, these policies are not abstract. Families have been directly impacted, including loved ones currently held in ICE detention centers in places like Cushing, Oklahoma. This event is an opportunity to stand in solidarity, uplift these stories, and take collective action.
Throughout the evening:
- Community members will write letters to their congressional representatives urging support for SEADRA
- Hai and Van’s family will share their experiences navigating detention and deportation
- The Southeast Asian Freedom Network will provide a Know Your Rights training and offer context on the bill
- Materials and guidance will be provided, no prior experience needed
This will be a supportive and creative space to learn, connect, and act together.
Whether you have been directly impacted, are part of the Southeast Asian community, or want to show up in solidarity, your voice matters.
