King St Book Club August - Book + Conversation + Wine & Eats
About this Event
Come along to the King St Book Club and join us for an evening of lively and in-depth discussion guided by Avid Reader Book Clubs host, Jennifer Stephens.
This month we'll read and discuss Frida by Claire Berest. This award-winning novel is a striking fictional imagining of the vibrant life and tumultuous marriage of one of the world's most beloved artists: Frida Kahlo.
Frida doesn't speak, she yells. She curses like a sailor and demonstrates with the communists on the streets of Mexico City. She likes drinking tequila, putting flowers in her hair, talking crudely about sex, and parties that wake the dead.
Even when her body is wracked with pain, she paints. Frida suffered two terrible accidents in her life, one in which a streetcar knocked her down - the other accident was Diego Rivera. Her greatest vice. The love of her life. The most famous artist in Mexico. A man who is as hard to live with, as he is to be without.
This month we'll meet at 3Bros Korean King St and enjoy delicious food over our discussion of Frida.
Current Book Club members will collect their book at our July meeting at bar gusto and new members will be able to elect to collect their book from Avid Reader in West End or to add postage of their book to their order.
